Although I woke today for the first time as a 43 year old, I still managed to bang out a morning leg session with full blown intensity. Being 6 and half weeks out I kept the weight a bit lighter and challenged myself with a bit more volume. Getting under a squat bar with 500lbs or more didn’t seem like the smartest move this close to the NA Championships. The squat bar has been a tool of fear since the beginning, each quad on separate years have been torn. Now I prefer to only squat out of a mono lift to ensure proper set up. I also have a dominant right leg with is 2 inches or more larger than the left.
Warmed up the hips and knees with a few different exercises I’ve been using for the last couple of months that I have seen on Kabuki Strength. Then went on to it with a couple of light weight leg exts
work sets –
Leg Ext – 3 sets of 30-35 failure (ape shit on all three)
Lying Ham Curl – 3 sets of 15-20 failure – after all six of these sets my legs were ringing..used about 7 -10 min to recover here. Yes Im 43 but my 23 year old leg training partner was in the same condition….hard to stand or sit, just uncomfortable
Cambered Bar Chain Squats – 3 sets of 15 once we got into a the 450lb range with the chains (every set to the death)
Single Legged, Leg Presses – 2 sets of 15, 1 set of 25 (last set was failure)
