The “dad” portion of my “dad training” journal took majority role today. I had two kids out sick with the flu. Since I’m doing mostly computer programming at work right now, I was able to work from home for most of the day to stay with the sick 11 year old and 2 year old.
I went in to the office from 6:30-9am, and headed home as my wife left (her first patient wasn’t until 10am).
My 8 year old’s basketball team (I help coach) played at halftime of the HS women’s varsity game at 6pm, so the only chance I had to train was during the 2 year old’s nap….which as you’ll see from the workout didn’t last very long and I had to it it short and head home.
I’ll look at it as a blessing in disguise as my knee has been giving me so much problems lately maybe it was good to lay off it for a session.
I did what I could, but I got the call from my 11 year old that the baby woke up right as I finished the second hamstring movement. I did pretty much one looong continuous set of walking lunges and leg extension with drop sets to get what I could before heading home.

It’s always frustrating when workouts like this happen, but with 4 kids and multiple jobs, it happens. It’s sessions like this that play the largest role in me not competing. They happen often enough, and are unplanned enough that it’s just not feasible to get in proper shape for a contest….especially when Ive always had to put everything together perfectly to be in condition.
Every day is busy, but I can usually plan around the chaos we’ll enough to fit an hour of training in 5x a week….it just didn’t work out this time.
The worst part wasn’t cutting the workout short though…it was the fact that my f’n quads cramped up from that triple drop set about halfway home….which was beyond painful while driving lol
